At NBCUniversal, our Summer Internship Program gives early-career professionals the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience across our global portfolio, from television, streaming and film to news, sports, technology and beyond.
Throughout the summer, interns work alongside industry leaders, contribute to real business initiatives and build the skills, connections and experiences that help launch careers in media and entertainment.

We caught up with interns from across the company to hear about the projects they worked on, the lessons they learned and the moments that made their summer at NBCUniversal unforgettable
NBCUniversal Summer Internship Q&A
What’s one skill you’ve developed or improved during your internship?
Janice Wong, Global Network & Distribution, Automation and Reliability: One of the biggest skills I’ve developed is learning how to navigate a large, existing codebase and contribute to production-quality code. It’s difficult to get this kind of learning experience in my college classes and has helped me grow significantly as an engineer.
Jocelyn Bilker, NBC News Now: I’ve significantly strengthened my editorial judgment. Through pitching stories every day, I’ve learned how to quickly identify what’s newsworthy, what will resonate with audiences, and how to adapt those ideas to fit the show’s editorial style.
Jenna McLaughlin, Local Boston Social Media/Creative Services: I have been able to develop a stronger social media intuition by learning which types of videos perform well on NBC10’s platforms and what resonates most with the audience. Through this experience, I’ve gained a better understanding of the importance of creating content that gives an audience what they want, collaborating with other relevant accounts, using the right formatting, and paying close attention to detail.
Samarth Ramaswamy, Bravo Brand Marketing: Clear communication- whether it’s through check-ins with my supervisors or informational chats with other professionals in departments I’m interested in exploring, I learned how important it is to communicate your ideas clearly and create a genuine connection while doing it. As this was my first corporate internship experience, I learned the nuances and lingo that is used in a professional setting and got significantly better at organizing my thoughts in a concise and logical manner.
Logan Feldman, Social Media Marketing: One skill I have continued to develop throughout this internship is networking. NBCUniversal is filled with so many talented, passionate, inspiring people, and I have loved taking the opportunity to learn from them, hear about their career journeys, and build meaningful connections. From my incredible team to fellow NBCU Florida Gators like me, it has been incredibly rewarding to expand my network while learning more about the many paths available within entertainment.
Rachel Malamud, Quality & PMO - Project Management: One skill I’ve improved during my internship is my presentation/storytelling skills, especially how to create a concise PowerPoint slide deck that balances text with visuals. It was crucial for me to know ahead of time who my audience would be when presenting because it guided the decisions I made and the information I included. I learned the structure of an executive and a casual presentation, and how you can still tell an impactful story in both cases.

How has this internship helped shape your career goals?
Jocelyn Bilker: This internship has reinforced my goal of pursuing a career in broadcast journalism while also showing me that there isn’t one path to success. Hearing the stories of anchors, producers, and other journalists throughout the summer has taught me that every career journey is different, and that being open to new opportunities and experiences is just as important as having a long-term goal.
Mary-Grace Cardelle, Ad Sales: This internship has reinforced my goals to stay and grow at NBCU—my time here has only strengthened my feeling that this company is special and where I want to stay. The mix between creativity, strategy, and collaboration makes the workplace a fun and incredible place to be. I’d love to grow here.
Jax Crall, TODAY Show: Interning with TODAY has given me a great idea on how national television compares to local. As someone who wants to be on-air, the TODAY staff has allowed me to work with every team within the company. I believe that being able to see how the show all comes together from the perspectives of all groups has given me a real sense of how important it is to be well rounded, flexible and dependent on your coworkers.
Hayes Sherman, Universal Pictures, Global Publicity: This internship has affirmed my desire to build a career in the entertainment industry. Getting hands-on experience on the publicity campaigns and storytelling side of the industry has only confirmed how much I love this space. I have always been deeply passionate about film, but getting to intern at NBCU has shown me that it could be an incredibly fulfilling career
Shanyl Lim, Business Affairs: A lot of the lawyers in my office have provided me with a gold mine of advice and resources for my future. As an aspiring entertainment lawyer, having one-on-one coffee chats with everybody and hearing about their diverse experiences has really helped me paint a bigger picture of what I want my professional life to look like.
Logan Feldman: This internship has confirmed that entertainment is exactly where I want to be in my future career. Being immersed in NBCUniversal’s fast-paced and creative environment has shown me what it truly means to bring stories and experiences to audiences every day.

What’s one lesson you’ll take with you from this internship throughout your career?
Janice Wong, Global Network & Distribution, Automation and Reliability: Give back when you can. Throughout the summer, I’ve noticed that many full-time employees are eager to mentor others, especially interns. Everybody is so friendly and generous with their time, and I hope to do the same as I progress in my career.
Jocelyn Bilker: I’ll always remember the importance of adaptability. News changes constantly, and no two days in the newsroom are the same. I’ve learned that staying calm, communicating clearly, and being willing to adjust quickly are just as important as reporting skills.
Samarth Ramaswamy: No task is ever too small! Being adaptable and a sponge for anything and everything has been extremely useful as an intern here and will be a lesson I will carry to all future career experiences—no matter what you’re doing, it always helps to know that you are growing your skills in the industry and learning more every day.
Jenna McLaughlin: One lesson I’ll take with me from this internship throughout my career is the importance of kindness and mentorship. The support and encouragement I received as an intern at NBC made a lasting impact on my future, and I hope to carry that forward one day by showing the same level of care, effort, and intentionality to future interns and early-career professionals I work with.
Kaila Pruitt, Legal Rights & Clearances: One lesson I will take away from this internship is that there is no single, predetermined career path. This summer showed me that every professional has a unique journey, which has inspired me to confidently carve out my own path.

What’s been your “pinch me” moment working here?
Jocelyn Bilker: Standing at the top of the Washington Monument gathering footage for NBC News, and then seeing that footage air later that evening on NBC Nightly News, was definitely a pinch-me moment. It was a reminder that even as an intern, my work can have a real impact.
Kaila Pruitt: My “pinch me” moment has been walking around the lot and seeing the historic sets and sound stages firsthand! It has been a surreal experience, and I am incredibly grateful to work at NBCUniversal.
Hayes Sherman: I think getting to work the premiere of THE ODYSSEY was probably my biggest “pinch me” moment. Witnessing something I had gotten to support (in a small way) coming together was such a cool experience. And watching the film that night with many of the people who had created it (the cast, crew, etc.) made it impossible not to feel the weight of what they had accomplished.
Ashley Dallos, Weekend Nightly: Recently, I had the opportunity to do a practice Nightly News anchor read. It was so exciting to try an on-camera role, and it gave me an even greater appreciation for the skill and preparation that anchors must bring to every broadcast!
Reese Whitley, Film Music: The biggest “pinch me” moment since working here was attending an early screening of Minions & Monsters with the Film Music department and getting to hear one of my favorite composers, John Powell, speak about his work before the film. It was surreal to see someone I admire so much in person, and hearing his thoughts on scoring the movie is something I will never forget.
