As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, Comcast NBCUniversal is honoring those lost, recognizing those who served, and inspiring a new generation of volunteers through employee service, strategic partnerships, and the reach of its media platforms.
In partnership with the nonprofit 9/11 Day, which founded and annually leads the federally recognized September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Comcast NBCUniversal will mobilize employees, partners, and audiences nationwide through volunteer events, public service announcements (PSAs), and content spotlighting acts of service in communities across the country.
Through its support of America Gives, a nationwide volunteer initiative led by America250 in partnership with 9/11 Day, the company is helping Americans honor both the September 11 anniversary and the nation’s 250th anniversary through acts of service that strengthen communities.
As a national sponsor, Comcast NBCUniversal will engage more than 400 employee volunteers from Comcast, NBC, and Universal Destinations & Experiences in 17 cities nationwide to pack more than 140,000 meals for local Feeding America member food banks.
Comcast is also donating national airtime for 9/11 Day’s “UNIITE For Good” campaign, running a 30-second PSA across its platforms through September 13, to encourage Americans to pledge acts of service in their communities.
Together, 9/11 Day and its partners aim to mobilize more than 50,000 volunteers from 800 companies in 50 cities to pack more than 18 million meals for hunger-relief organizations nationwide.
A Companywide Commitment to Service
From Employee Service to National Storytelling
NBCUniversal will help televise the spirit of service to millions of Americans. NBC Sports will capture moments from the Intrepid event and other volunteer efforts and share those stories during Sunday Night Football’s Giants vs. Cowboys broadcast on September 13, encouraging viewers to get involved in their own communities.
Additional service projects with NFL clubs — including the New York Giants and New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High, and the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium — will extend the day of service to communities across the country.
Comcast NBCUniversal employees will volunteer in cities and venues nationwide, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Portland, Seattle, Washington, D.C., the Intrepid Museum in New York, MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, and the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center.
About 9/11 Day
Founded in 2002, the nonprofit 9/11 Day led the successful national effort to establish September 11 as a federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance under the bipartisan Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Each year, tens of millions of Americans observe the day by performing good deeds in honor of those who perished, were injured or sickened; the survivors; the first responders; and all who rose to serve in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
