Volunteer Month

May 07, 2026

April is an annual opportunity for NBCUniversal employees to give back throughout Global Volunteer Month. This year, over 3,400 employees came together in-person and virtually to support 77 nonprofit partners through projects facilitated by NBCUnites, the company's social impact initiative, and events planned by employees with organizations of their choosing. Over 300 employees participated in our Receive a Project initiative, where 22 teams received a turnkey project to coordinate with their team. Volunteers dedicated 8,700 hours of service to their communities in over 35 cities by mentoring students, beautifying outdoor spaces, and providing essential supplies to community members in need.

Check out some highlights below:

Uplifting Our Communities

In Los Angeles, more than 130 employees kicked off Volunteer Month by painting vibrant murals at Lankershim Elementary School, one of LAUSD’s oldest elementary schools, alongside City Year Los Angeles

In partnership with the American Red Cross, 60 employees donated blood, helping provide lifesaving support to those in need. In addition, employee volunteers donated gently used professional and formal attire to A Place Called Home's teen empowerment boutique clothing drive, helping teens prepare for interviews, internships, proms, graduations, and other milestone moments.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day became an opportunity for parents and their kids to give back with L.A. Works as they created jump ropes for Para Los Niños and seed balls supporting fire-impacted communities through the Altadena Fire Collaborative.

In Atlanta, employees sprang into service at the Atlanta Community Food Bank in Stone Mountain, working hands-on to support food distribution efforts that serve families across Metro Atlanta. They also partnered with the Happy Hope Factory to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Atlanta. Volunteers packed Happy Hope bags to help spread encouragement and hope to families with children receiving medical care.

In Washington, D.C., WRC 4 and Telemundo 44 employees volunteered to support the Foundation for Hospital Art by painting two murals to help enhance hospital environments through uplifting artwork. They also volunteered to support animal welfare partners at Project Helping, crafting 10 sets of pet toys intended for shelter animals.

Thirty volunteers from NBC 7/Telemundo 20 San Diego painted colorful canvases that formed three murals for Foundation for Hospital Art. The murals will be donated to hospitals to help create spaces of healing and a lasting impact on patients, families, and staff.

In New York, employees volunteered at Animal Haven to support shelter animals, partnered with City Year New York to create stuffed animals for local elementary school students, and packed 600 sports bags with Klinic Kids to support youth athletes. They also beautified local parks and schools with City Parks Foundation and Edible Schoolyard

In Miami, volunteers participated in the 44th annual Baynanza Beach Cleanup at Virginia Key, contributing to one of South Florida's longest-running environmental traditions. Employees also came together at the WOW Center Miami for Telemundo/NBCU LATAM Day to carry out beautification efforts, and they partnered with Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade to complete essential home repairs and beautification projects.

Mentoring the Next Generation

Employees came together throughout Volunteer Month to mentor the next generation of storytellers and media leaders.

DreamWorks brought stories to life with Story Pirates Changemakers. Volunteers shared writing feedback with students and created drawings inspired by over 150 kids' original stories. They also supported the Lollipop Theater Network with a drawing tutorial and Q&A for over 300 children in hospitals, led by a DreamWorks artist. Additionally, over 200 "future DreamMakers" learned about planting to support their environment in an educational session led by TreePeople during Bring Your Kids to Work Day.

In Los Angeles, volunteers partnered with BUILD to mentor and inspire students at San Fernando High School by providing feedback on their business presentations. Volunteers also hit the field at the Multicultural Learning Center in Canoga Park to get young students excited for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ on Telemundo, the exclusive Spanish-language home of the tournament. While there, employees helped coaches run soccer drills with our partner, Woodcraft Rangers. Check out coverage from NBC4 here and Telemundo52 here.

In New York, employee volunteers gathered at the Paley Center for Media to play video games with student game designers from nonprofit partner Urban Arts while also celebrating the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. They also mentored Minds Matter students as they worked on BravoCon case study presentations, helping build media industry knowledge and presentation skills.
