At NBCUniversal, empowering our employees to give back to their local communities is at the core of what we do, especially around the holiday season.
From December 1 to December 19, NBCUnites hosted Season of Service, our annual holiday volunteering initiative. Over 2,500 employees globally came together in person and virtually to support 60+ of our nonprofit partners. Opportunities ranged from decorating and packing kits with essential supplies for vulnerable populations in New York City to rebuilding the homes of families impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles. We would like to thank all our wonderful volunteers for committing 3,000+ hours of service and making a significant impact in our communities this year!
Volunteers leaned into our NBCUnites social impact pillars by building stronger communities, empowering the next generation of storytellers, and more! This Season of Service, NBCU employees:
- Assembled 4,000+ essentials kits for families in need
- Participated on NBCUnites on Demand (200+ employees) with Happy Hope and Soldiers' Angeles being the most popular organizations
- Participated across 25 states
Hear from our dedicated NBCUnites Leaders about how this year's Season of Service events made an impact in their cities:
DreamWorks

DreamWorks hosted a food drive benefitting the LA Regional Food Bank.

DreamWorks employees wrote birthday cards in collaboration with the Confetti Foundation.
"At DreamWorks we hosted a food drive to benefit the LA Regional Food Bank. Thanks to the generosity of our employees, we were able to fill about 8 large boxes with non-perishable items to support families in our community. In addition, volunteers came together to write and decorate about 100 birthday cards for The Confetti Foundation, which helps to bring joy and celebration to children facing serious illness. These events were a wonderful way to bring our team together during the holiday season while giving back to the communities we serve."

"In London, we made a meaningful difference through a series of volunteer and donation initiatives. We organized office-wide donation drives, collecting 172 toys for children at a local primary school and supporting families during the festive period. We also donated essential items to Your Place, providing vital supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness. Volunteers joined skywalks with Under One Sky, walking through central London to deliver food and offer human connection to those in need. In addition, we supported Wrap Up London at its distribution center, helping to sort thousands of donated coats and ensure warm clothing reached local communities during the winter months."

"In Los Angeles, we teamed up with the LA Clippers, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, and San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity for a transformative community initiative to rebuild neighborhoods across Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. We hosted a special build on the Universal Studios Lot and built two playhouses and 20 toy chests for families impacted by the January fires. Toys collected from local drives, including one on the Universal Lot, will fill the toy chests as a holiday surprise for families.
With our partner L.A. Works, volunteers assembled 150 holiday cheer kits for patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and 150 dog care kits for PAWS/LA's PETSTRONG program, which supports low-income U.S. Veterans and their companion animals. Employees donated 44 units of blood with the American Red Cross which will impact 132 lives and fulfilled 107 holiday wish lists for children in need through Baby2Baby.
Additionally, we partnered with BUILD California to mentor students at San Fernando High School and brought festive fun to local youth with a Holiday Bowl and basketball clinic in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good and Woodcraft Rangers. Together, we spread joy, gave back, and made a lasting impact in our community!"

NBCU volunteers also spread holiday cheer at a New Alternatives for Children Holiday Party, uplifting vulnerable children through activities such as gingerbread house making. In addition, employees participated in a Holiday Elves event with Covenant House, an organization dedicated to providing housing and support for displaced individuals. It provides safe housing, resources, and comprehensive supportive services to help guests successfully transition to lives of greater stability and opportunity. Telemundo employees donated new toys to bring holiday cheer to children and families in our community who are experiencing hardship. Telemundo Center employees also partnered with the WOW Center to assemble hygiene kits for individuals in our community who are experiencing housing or economic insecurity this holiday season. The WOW Center provides access to opportunities and resources for adults with developmental disabilities and the communities that support them."
