In a new Peacock original limited series, The Good Daughter, premiering November 12, two sisters are forced to confront their painful past to uncover the truth.

The Good Daughter is a suspenseful thriller wrapped in a deeply emotional story about love, family and resilience. Sisters Charlotte (Meghann Fahy) and Samantha (Rose Byrne) Quinn have spent the last 20 years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte – now a lawyer like her father – is the first witness on the scene. As the case unfolds and twists through painful memories and buried secrets, what emerges is not just a story of survival, but of enduring ties between a father and his daughters, and the complex bond between sisters.

All episodes of The Good Daughter will premiere November 12 on Peacock.

Acclaimed Australian actress Rose Byrne, recently nominated for an Oscar for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and a Tony for Fallen Angels, stars alongside Emmy Award nominee Meghann Fahy, with the two bringing vulnerability, strength, and complexity to the Quinn sisters’ relationship in this emotional and visceral story. Beyond their performances, Byrne also serves as an executive producer on the series, while Fahy recorded a cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” for the show’s fifth episode.

Filming The Good Daughter in Georgia

Georgia native Karin Slaughter’s novels are almost always set in her home state, so it was important not only to Slaughter but to the entire creative team to film The Good Daughter there.

Director Steph Green viewed filming in the story’s setting as essential to authentically bringing the source material to life, particularly given the book and author’s deep connection to Georgia. To capture that sense of place, Green and Slaughter worked closely with cinematographer Zoë White, production designer Michael Bricker, and costume designer Elizabeth Warn to ensure the state and its distinctive character were represented as authentically as possible.

Nature also played a central role in shaping the series’ visual identity. Green, Slaughter, White, and Bricker drew inspiration from Georgia’s landscape, using its dense woods and vibrant natural environment to reflect the memories that haunt the characters and drive the story. As the mystery moves deeper into the past, the surrounding landscape becomes increasingly overgrown and imposing, creating a setting that is at once beautiful, haunting, and dark. Georgia’s abundant color and untamed natural environment ultimately became a defining element of the series and its mystery-thriller aesthetic.

Filming extensively on location also gave the cast an opportunity to more fully immerse themselves in their characters’ world. Slaughter served as an important local resource throughout production, helping ground the series in the details, people, and atmosphere of Georgia. For Fahy and the cast, experiencing those environments firsthand provided valuable context and helped create a stronger connection to the places represented in the story.

The fictional Appalachian town of Pikeville is loosely based on the mountain town of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Early in the production process, Bricker and the creative team explored Blue Ridge and North Georgia alongside Slaughter, whose familiarity with the region helped inform the series’ visual details. From elements of local homes and landscapes to distinctive sights encountered throughout the area, Slaughter provided context that helped the production team translate the specificity and sense of place found in her writing to the screen.

About The Good Daughter

In Peacock's new original drama The Good Daughter, two sisters confront their past to uncover the truth.

Over 20 years ago, Charlie and Sam Quinn survived a traumatic event at their rural Georgia home that left their family shattered. Now estranged, Charlie is a defense attorney like her father, Rusty, in their hometown of Pikeville, while Sam practices patent law in New York City. When violence returns to Pikeville, Rusty brings Sam home, and a new mystery forces the sisters to face what they've avoided for decades.

Adapted from Karin Slaughter's bestselling 2017 novel, the series blends suspense, moral complexity, and emotional depth. Slaughter, one of the leading crime writers of her generation, wrote all six episodes in her screenwriting debut.

Told across two timelines, the limited series is an unflinching thriller about a single act of violence and its aftermath, especially for women and girls. It shows that aftermath with empathy and realism the genre rarely offers.
