Universal has become the first studio in 2026 to cross $3 billion at the international box office, powered by global sensations including The Odyssey, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael.
The milestone marks only the third time since 2019 that a studio has grossed $3 billion at the international box office. It is also the third time Universal has achieved the milestone as a studio.
The achievement reflects Universal’s robust slate across a variety of genres, appealing to a wide range of audiences around the globe. Universal also delivered consistent output to exhibitors overseas, with a steady stream of releases ensuring that the studio’s success wasn’t contingent upon a single film.
Universal currently has the second-highest-grossing movie of the year internationally with The Odyssey. The studio has also released three films this year that have each grossed more than $500 million internationally: The Odyssey, Michaeland The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
That success has extended across Universal’s wider slate. Five consecutive wide-release movies have grossed more than $100 million internationally: Michael, Obsession, Disclosure Day, Minions & Monsters and The Odyssey.
