Sustainability Was No Mystery on the Set of All Her Fault

New Peacock series All Her Fault integrated sustainability measures throughout its production.

November 25, 2025

New Peacock series All Her Fault, produced by Carnival Films with production services from Matchbox Pictures – both part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group – participated in the NBCUniversal Sustainable Production Program. Supported by a dedicated Eco-Department, the team followed the studio’s sustainable production standards, reducing fuel use, minimizing waste, and incorporating sustainable practices across all departments.

Power & Transport

The production introduced electric vehicles both on and off the screen and installed the first EV fast charger at their stages. Hybrid generators powered the unit base to reduce reliance on traditional generators, and for six weeks, filming ran entirely on battery power. When generators were required, the team used renewable diesel (HVO). Additionally, more than 70% of lighting fixtures used LED technology to lower energy consumption.

Materials & Waste

Efforts to reduce waste included reusing set pieces and trialing new eco-friendly materials. At wrap, many items were repurposed for other productions or donated to local charities. The art department was considered zero waste by diverting 95% of its waste from landfill and sorting through over 40 tons of material to maximize recovery and reuse. Catering also played a role by utilizing reusable dishware, reducing food waste through ingredient reuse and food donations, and composting organic waste.

Community Impact

Beyond the set, the production supported conservation through the purchase of 15,000 Biological Diversity Units (BDUs) – each unit representing one square meter of land that will be placed under permanent protection and cared for on the production’s behalf. Crew members received BDUs in their name as wrap gifts instead of physical items.

Engagement

The Eco-Department hosted masterclasses for the cast and crew to share the latest in industry sustainability efforts. The production team also shared its experience through VicScreen’s Sustainable Action Behind the Scenes panel where Helen Panckhurst (Matchbox Pictures) moderated the panel of Paul Walton (Unit Production Manager), Andy Pappas (Supervising UPM), and Maxine Dennett (Supervising Art Director) with a discussion that covered the importance of leadership on-set and overcoming the challenges of switching to new technology.

Upon release of the series, a GreenerLight behind-the-scenes video, featuring Sarah Snook, was posted on socials highlighting efforts across the project.

The sustainability initiatives implemented during All Her Fault’s production demonstrate how practical steps can help reduce environmental impact during filming while supporting local communities.
