This Sunday, August 27th marks the second annual National Cinema Day, and Fandango is helping drive fans to theaters where they can experience the magic of the big screen. This one-day event allows movie lovers the chance to watch new titles, independent films, and summer blockbusters, on over 30,000 screens across the country in all formats (including Premium Large Format screens) for $4 a ticket

Held at more than 3,000 participating locations, fans can watch several new films opening this weekend, such as Gran Turismo, Golda, The Hill, Retribution, and Bottoms, current box office sensations like Oppenheimer, Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and Sound of Freedom, recent family hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Little Mermaid (Sing-Along Version), and classic re-releases like Jurassic Park, American Graffiti, Lady Bird, and Oldboy

After the success of last year’s National Cinema Day, in a Fandango consumer survey of more than 2,000 U.S. ticket buyers, participants noted the top five reasons they would buy tickets for National Cinema Day, including affordable pricing, the ability to see a specific movie they’ve wanted to see, time with loved ones, being a big fan of a particular movie franchise, and the prospect of a fun weekend activity.

As of Thursday evening, Fandango saw an 80% increase in ticket sales at the same point in the sales cycle compared to last year – showcasing National Cinema Day as a true annual event for movie lovers.
