5 Ways NBCUniversal is Innovating for the Olympic Games Paris 2024

From inventive new viewing options to game-changing advertising technology, see how NBCUniversal is revolutionizing a historic sports event for the audiences of today.

April 23, 2024

1. Covering An Opening Ceremony for the Ages

For the first time in the history of the Summer Games, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium. Instead, the athletes and performers will float down six kilometers of the River Seine on approximately 160 boats, giving those on board a glimpse of some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including Notre Dame, Place de la Concorde, the Grand Palais, Les Invalides, and more. The parade will come to an end at the Trocadéro for the ceremony’s grand finale. NBCU has announced that Kelly Clarkson, Peyton Manning, and Mike Tirico will host the Opening Ceremony. “This summer’s Opening Ceremony will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen, and we’re thrilled to have Kelly and Peyton join Mike to describe all the spectacular sights and sounds happening along The Seine leading to the lighting of the cauldron,” said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer & President, NBC Olympics Production.

2. Bringing the Biggest Moments to the Biggest Screens with IMAX & AMC Theatres

IMAX will present NBC’s live coverage of this summer’s Opening Ceremony to more than 150 IMAX locations throughout the United States, providing fans with a unique and immersive theatre experience to enjoy what promises to be one of the most spectacular Opening Ceremonies in Olympic history.

NBC will extend its daily live daytime coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics to AMC Theatres as a ticketed event throughout the United States from July 27-August 11. Beginning the day after the Opening Ceremony, select daytime hours of NBCUniversal’s live coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics on NBC will be shown in approximately 160 AMC locations nationwide, allowing fans to gather and experience the competitions, moments, stories, and emotion of the Olympics on the big screen as they unfold live in Paris. Tickets will be available for purchase through AMC and Fandango this summer.

Peacock also unveiled two new features coming to the platform – Peacock Live Actions and Peacock Discovery Multiview – that will help fans discover and engage with the Olympics and other live programming in new, innovative ways.

4. Making Olympic History with the World's Biggest Stars

With fewer than 100 days until the start of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, NBCU has unveiled an all-star team of talent to connect audiences to its coverage in new ways. 5. Engaging Audiences of All Ages and Demographics

NBCUniversal is innovating and reimagining how the Games are presented to offer advertisers new opportunities to engage audiences of all ages and demographics. For our primetime coverage on NBC, we launched new Olympic Prime Pod sponsorships, a new opportunity that seamlessly integrates participating advertisers into key moments of the Games. On Peacock, the streaming home of Paris 2024, we have unveiled new ad innovations like Virtual Concessions that allow audiences to purchase food, beverages, and other items throughout their Olympic streaming journey, as well as additional content opportunities for advertisers to leverage, such as Gold Zone and our interactive Watch with Alex Cooper experience.
Additionally, for the first time in history, the Olympic and Paralympic Games are available programmatically, offering brands of all sizes the opportunity to connect with fans tuning into the Games. Advertisers will also have the ability to leverage the power of social media for Paris 2024 through partnerships that NBCU will soon be unveiling. Overall, NBCUniversal is helping partners leverage the power of this global stage to reach dedicated and engaged consumers anywhere and everywhere they are.
