Will Packer is bringing the rom-com back to theaters with 'You, Me & Tuscany'

Seen on the Screen is rebranding, now featuring actors as well as creatives in a behind-the-scenes look at upcoming film and television projects from across the industry. This season, Fandango joins Universal Entertainment as an official production partner on the podcast, which originally launched in 2024. Upcoming guests this season include Brie Larson, Halle Bailey and her co-star Regé-Jean Page, and Tyriq Withers, among others. Rotten Tomatoes' Awards Editor Jacqueline Coley returns as host.

This exciting collaboration broadens the podcast's distribution and deepens its connection with movie fans across NBCUniversal and Versant platforms.

First up in the season's line up of creative talent is producer Will Packer (Stomp the Yard, Girls Trip, Ride Along, Think Like a Man, Night School), He and Coley discussed the upcoming release of his romantic comedy, Universal Pictures' You, Me & Tuscany starring Bailey and Page.

When recently-bereaved Anna (Bailey) impulsively travels to Italy, impulsively becomes a squatter in a Tuscan villa, and impulsively pretends to be the absent owner's fiancée, the lies begin to snowball. But it's when the handsome owner appears (Regé-Jean Page) that things get really complicated.

Asked why he felt the time was right for a light-hearted story about a woman running off to Italy and finding love and deep trouble, Packer says it's all about the audience.

"I love a romcom," says Packer. "And if I have a secret to my success, it really is listening to audiences. It's listening to real people. And when I talk to real people, I have heard often, 'Where's our romcom?' Where's our Eat Pray Love? Where's something for this generation? I think audiences are missing that."

If connecting with audiences has been key to Packer's filmmaking career so far, connecting with kindred artists has been equally important. "That is certainly true of a Kevin or an Idris," he says. "Tiffany Haddish and her breakout role. I feel that way about Halle Bailey."

Film studios too have a role to play, he says.

New episodes of Seen on the Screen are available on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. Universal Pictures' You, Me & Tuscany releases in theaters April 10.
