SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL: PADRES-DODGERS (7 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock)
Four-time MVP Shohei Ohtani and the first-place, two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers host seven-time All-Star Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres in the “Star-Spangled Sunday” edition of Sunday Night Baseball at 7 p.m. ET from Dodger Stadium on NBC and Peacock. 1988 World Series MVP and NL Cy Young Award winner Orel Hershiser and 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy join play-by-play voice Jason Benetti on the call of Padres-Dodgers.
Ahmed Fareed will host the pregame show alongside CC Sabathia, who will also provide “Inside the Pitch” commentary. During crucial at-bats in the game, Sabathia will provide insight into the pitcher’s throw-by-throw approach against a hitter.
The first-place Dodgers own MLB’s best record at 55-30, while the Padres sit second in the NL West at 43-40. Los Angeles leads the majors in batting average (.264), quality starts (47), and pitching wins (55), and ranks second with 758 hits and 425 RBI. San Diego ranks fourth in stolen bases (85) and is tied for eighth in saves (25). Ohtani leads the Dodgers and ranks in the top 10 in the National League with a .297 batting average, 18 home runs, a .412 on-base percentage, and a .958 OPS. Machado paces the Padres with 15 home runs and 44 RBI, while outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. has tallied a club-best 90 hits and a .282 batting average.
Peavy spent the first seven years of his 15-season career (2002-2016) with the Padres before stops with the White Sox, Red Sox, and Giants. In 2007, he was named the unanimous NL Cy Young Award winner and won the pitching “Triple Crown”, posting a 19-6 record, 2.54 ERA, and 240 strikeouts. Peavy is the only pitching “Triple Crown” winner in Padres’ history. A three-time All-Star (2005, 2007, 2012), Peavy won back-to-back World Series titles with the Red Sox (2013) and Giants (2014). Peavy was a 2023 inductee in the Padres Hall of Fame after finishing his career as the franchise’s all-time leader in strikeouts and returned to the organization in 2025 to serve as a special assistant to the Padres CEO. He has served as an analyst for MLB Network since 2022.
Hershiser’s 18-year MLB career was headlined by his 1988 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He posted an MLB-high 23 victories, pitched a record 59 consecutive scoreless innings, and won the NL Cy Young Award, NLCS MVP, and World Series MVP as the Dodgers won their first championship in seven years. Hershiser pitched 13 seasons for the Dodgers and three seasons for Cleveland, where he won ALCS MVP honors in leading the team to the 1995 World Series. Hershiser has worked as the primary analyst for SportsNet LA’s broadcasts of Dodgers games since 2017.
A 2025 inductee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, 2009 World Series champion (with New York Yankees), and 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner (with Cleveland), Sabathia won 251 games over his 19-year MLB career (2001-2019). A six-time All-Star, he is one of 20 pitchers in MLB history to record more than 3,000 strikeouts (3,093). Sabathia spent eight seasons with Cleveland before 11 years with the Yankees. In helping New York to the 2009 championship, he went 3-1 with a 1.98 earned run average in five Postseason starts and was named ALCS MVP. The left-hander led the MLB in wins in back-to-back seasons with 19 victories in 2009 and 21 in 2010. Sabathia, who helped launch MLB Network’s ongoing “Clubhouse Edition” special game telecast series in 2021, serves as a Special Assistant to the Commissioner.
MLB SUNDAY LEADOFF: METS-BRAVES (Noon ET on NBC and Peacock)
Three-time All-Star Matt Olson and the Atlanta Braves square off against four-time All-Star Juan Soto and the rival New York Mets in an NL East showdown at Truist Park, opening NBC Sports’ “Star-Spangled Sunday” coverage at Noon ET on NBC and Peacock. Play-by-play voice Matt Vasgersian will call Mets-Braves on MLB Sunday Leadoff alongside Hall of Famer Andruw Jones and former Mets infielder Todd Zeile.
Ashley ShahAhmadi will host the pregame show alongside Anthony Rizzo, who will also provide “Inside the Pitch” commentary from the batter’s perspective during the game.
The Mets-Braves rivalry returns to NBC for the first time since Game 6 of the 1999 NLCS on Oct. 19, 1999. Bob Costas and Joe Morgan called Atlanta’s extra-inning, 10-9 victory over New York, where Sunday’s analyst, Andruw Jones, drew a walk to bring in the series-clinching run in the bottom of the 11th inning. The Braves won the series, 4-2, and advanced to their fifth World Series of the decade.
The first-place Braves are 49-33 and lead the Philadelphia Phillies by 3.5 games in the NL East. Atlanta ranks second in the NL in ERA (3.41), third in pitching wins (49), fourth in quality starts (31), and fifth in home runs (103). Olson leads the Braves’ offense, ranking fourth in the NL with 20 home runs and 21 doubles. The Mets are fourth in the NL with 777 strikeouts, while Soto ranks amongst the league’s top 10 in OPS (.975), slugging percentage (.568), home runs (17), batting average (.301), and on-base percentage (.407).
Jones, who will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this summer, starred for the Atlanta Braves in 12 of his 17 Major League seasons (1996-2012). The 10-time Gold Glove-winning centerfielder was second in 2005 NL MVP voting, belting an MLB-leading 51 home runs and topping the National League with 128 RBI. Jones was a five-time All-Star and finished his career with 434 home runs. In the 2026 World Baseball Classic, he was the manager for the Netherlands national team.
Zeile debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1989 and played for 11 teams, including the New York Mets, during his 16-season MLB career. He retired with 2,004 hits, 253 home runs, 397 doubles, and 1,110 RBI. Zeile was the Mets’ first baseman during the team’s 2000 National League Championship season and hit .302 with 16 hits, six doubles, a home run, and nine RBI during the club’s postseason run. Zeile joined the Mets television broadcast team on SNY in 2017, where he serves as an analyst on the team’s pre- and post-game coverage.
A three-time MLB All-Star and four-time Gold-Glove winning first baseman, Rizzo caught the final out of the 2016 World Series for the Chicago Cubs, breaking the team’s 108-year championship drought. In 2016, Rizzo set a career high in RBI (109), was awarded a Gold Glove, earned a Silver Slugger, and won the Platinum Glove as the NL’s best overall defensive player. Over 14 seasons with the Padres, Cubs, and Yankees, the lefty slugger hit 303 home runs and had four seasons with at least 100 RBI. Rizzo will serve as an analyst for NBC Sports’ MLB coverage throughout the regular season and its exclusive MLB Postseason coverage of all Wild Card games on NBC, Peacock, and NBCSN.

NBC SPORTS’ MLB TRADITION
NBC Sports has a distinguished history with Major League Baseball. The first-ever MLB television broadcast was a 1939 Cincinnati Reds-Brooklyn Dodgers doubleheader on W2XBS (the precursor to WNBC-TV) in New York. NBC Sports was a home to the first World Series broadcast in 1947, the first All-Star Game nationally broadcast in 1952, and has televised 39 World Series – more than any other network.
From 1957-2000, NBC Sports was home to a wealth of baseball programming, including Game of the Week and Monday Night Baseball telecasts, more than 30 All-Star Games, and countless iconic Postseason moments. For the 2022-23 seasons, Peacock was the exclusive home of MLB Sunday Leadoff, a first-of-its-kind Sunday morning presentation featuring a unique three-announcer broadcast booth with one analyst with expertise on each team joining the play-by-play voice.
