Inside Telemundo's Record-Breaking FIFA World Cup 2026™ Coverage
Go behind the scenes of the largest and most ambitious Spanish-language FIFA World Cup™ production in history.
July 23, 2026
To showcase the teams and technology behind its FIFA World Cup 2026™ coverage, Telemundo invited L.A. Times Studios reporter Faith Pinnow to Miami’s Telemundo Center for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the network’s production operation. The resulting featurette pulls back the curtain on the largest Spanish-language World Cup production in history as Telemundo leverages its live broadcast infrastructure to create an immersive viewing experience for fans throughout the United States.
Throughout the tour, viewers can see how Telemundo’s remote production model transforms its Miami headquarters into a World Cup center of operations. Live fiber optic feeds from cameras and microphones in stadiums across North America route back to Telemundo’s studios, control rooms, and its technical operations center, allowing much of the production to be centralized at Telemundo Center while maintaining an on-the-ground presence across all 16 host cities. Further enhancing the fan experience, virtual sets recreated the unique look and feel of each host city, allowing viewers to feel connected to the tournament while production remained centered in Miami.
Telemundo’s coverage represented the most FIFA World Cup™ matches ever aired on a U.S. broadcast network, regardless of language. More than 700 hours of live Spanish-language programming covered all 104 matches, with 92 airing free over-the-air on Telemundo and 12 on Universo. Every match also streamed live on Peacock and the Telemundo App, all without interruption to Telemundo's 24-hour news, sports, and other programming.
The feature showcases the extraordinary collaboration behind one of the largest live sports productions in NBCUniversal history and underscores how Telemundo and Peacock transformed the tournament into a record-breaking media event. The tournament became the most-watched FIFA World Cup™ tournament in Spanish-language media history, averaging 6.3 million Total Audience Delivery viewers across all 104 matches – up 143% from 2022. Each stage of the 2026 tournament set a new Spanish-language World Cup Total Audience record and delivered triple-digit growth versus the 2022 World Cup. The record-breaking audiences across platforms propelled Telemundo to become the No. 1 Spanish-language broadcast network in Total Day during the tournament.
