
Jean-Louis “JL” Bonnier
President and Chief Operating Officer, Pacific Rim, Universal Destinations & Experiences
Jean-Louis “JL” Bonnier is the President and Chief Operating Officer for Universal Destinations & Experiences Pacific Rim. In this role, he oversees three Universal parks including Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, and Universal Beijing Resort.
From November 2015 through September 2025, Mr. Bonnier was Chief Executive Officer of Universal Studios Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Destinations & Experiences. Under his leadership, the park achieved significant growth and continued to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s premier entertainment destinations.
Before leading Universal Studios Japan, Mr. Bonnier served as Chief Financial Officer for Universal Parks & Resorts, a division of NBCUniversal. In this capacity, he oversaw all aspects of the finance organization, including financial planning, controllership, and operations. He played a key role in driving the division’s global expansion.
Mr. Bonnier joined NBC in 1999 as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis for NBC’s Broadcast and Network Operations and was later promoted to Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis for the Owned & Operated Television Stations division.
He began his career in 1991 at GE Plastics as part of the Financial Management Program. After completing the program, he held a series of financial roles with increasing responsibility in the U.S., Germany, India, France, and the Netherlands.
Mr. Bonnier holds a Master of Science degree from Delft University of Technology and an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management. He also served as a platoon commander in the Dutch Army.
