The More You Know Celebrates 30 Years of Inspiring Change

The More You Know

March 01, 2019

The More You Know, NBCUniversal’s iconic and Emmy Award-winning public service campaign, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

For three decades, The More You Know has been a trusted voice for bringing important social issues to the forefront and addressing them in creative and inspiring ways. The campaign’s widely-recognized PSAs feature celebrity role models who share—in a friendly and relatable way—information about important topics, moving audiences beyond awareness and inspiring them to act.

This cross-company initiative has featured three U.S. Presidents and First Ladies, medal-winning U.S. Olympians, as well as some of NBCUniversal’s biggest and brightest stars speaking about education, the environment, diversity, health, and civic engagement. This year’s 30th Anniversary season includes messages from the TODAY Show’s Al Roker; Stella Maeve of Syfy’s The Magicians; Chuck Todd of NBC News; Telemundo’s Fernanda Castillo; Bravo’s Carson Kressley and Thom Filicia; and Christina Hendricks of NBC’s Good Girls.

In 1989, NBC was the first television network to launch its own public service campaign with a message featuring NBC News’ Tom Brokaw. The campaign, created in response to the teacher shortage in the late eighties, was introduced in an effort to recruit and retain educators. The More You Know went on to garner nearly fifty national awards including the prestigious Emmy and Peabody Awards, and to enter the pop-cultural zeitgeist with its immediately recognizable chime and star logo.

Featuring a refreshed and modern new look, the 30th Anniversary season of The More You Know will be seen across the full range of NBCUniversal and Comcast distribution platforms including broadcast, VOD, and digital outlets.

The new PSAs can be viewed at The More You Know website, and you can check out behind-the-scenes from this year’s photo shoot on Facebook.
