Comcast NBCU Elevates Houston with Mayors' History Maker Awards

Comcast NBCUniversal takes great pride in its company-wide Diversity and Inclusion accomplishments and the dedicated efforts of Governance, Workforce, Supplier Diversity, Programming and Community Investment.
In celebration of Black History Month, Comcast recently announced a partnership with City of Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner, to honor 10 Houston community volunteers at the first-ever Mayor’s History Makers Awards held on February 9, 2018. Held at the Houstonian Hotel, the honorees were recognized for their commitment to making a difference in the community through volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy and civic engagement.

The volunteers were commended as exceptional individuals having demonstrated selfless commitment in their communities. They played a vital role in positive change and continue to help celebrate diversity in the city of Houston. As part of the recognition, each honoree will be featured in a 30-second Public Service Announcement that will air on Comcast cable. In addition, Comcast NBCUniversal will also donate $1,000 to the nonprofit organization of the honoree’s choice.

Dr. Thomas F. Freeman, founding Dean of the Thomas F. Freeman Honors College at Texas Southern University was also recognized with a Living Legend award.
Honorees were judged on criteria that included their personal impact in the community, helping further the mission of a nonprofit organization and overcoming personal obstacles.
