NBCUniversal Hosts Development Program with Long-Standing Partner, The Prince's Trust

NBCUniversal Celebrates its Partnership with The Prince's Trust and Wins Dream Team Award at ‘Million Makers,’ raising more than £80,000

April 11, 2024

NBCUniversal in London celebrated our long-standing and valued partnership with The Prince’s Trust, founded by His Majesty King Charles III back in 1976 as HRH The Prince of Wales.  His vision for The Trust was to support young people from disadvantaged communities and those facing adversity to build confidence and skills to live, learn and earn.

For more than eight years, NBCUniversal has supported The Prince’s Trust with charitable donations, bespoke career development programs for young people and fundraising initiatives.

Get Started in Media with The Prince's Trust and NBCUniversal

One of NBCU’s flagship partnership initiatives is Get Started in Media, a week-long immersive program for 16-30 year olds not in work, education or training.  This intensive development course facilitates deep insight into NBCUniversal’s expertise and illustrates the breadth of careers available in media, focusing on building skills through workshops, career journeys and active work on a key business challenge.

Since 2018, we have supported over 175 young people in the Get Started in Media program, offering participants an opportunity to access ring-fenced internships at NBCUniversal. Since that time, we have employed 12 young people from The Prince’s Trust on year-long internship programs, with three of those interns subsequently having their internships extended or employed in longer-term roles.

This month, our Get Started in Media event was presented by a host of NBCUniversal in-house experts who delivered stellar sessions including The Power of Digital & Social, Marketing 101 and The Future of Media.

We’re very proud of the work we do with The Prince's Trust which makes a significant impact on the lives of so many young people and look forward to continuing to build our transformational relationship with the organization.

Team Universal Wins Prestigious Dream Team Award at Million Makers

On the fundraising side of this partnership, The Prince’s Trust hosts ‘Million Makers’, an annual entrepreneurial challenge, with companies across the UK competing to raise charitable funds over a six-month period.  This year, NBCUniversal’s team raised over £80,000 (and counting!), breaking records by raising more than all previous NBCU Million Makers teams combined.

NBCU’s fundraising activities included a Charity Golf Day hosted by GolfNow in October 2023; Consumer Products, Poster and Bake Sales throughout the year; as well as a flagship Charity Gala event in December at the Waldorf Hilton in London, welcoming over 250+ attendees including valued partners, clients and agencies, who enjoyed an evening of music, ballet, poetry and a packed dance floor – raising funds for a great cause!

As a result of NBCUniversal’s efforts competing with 30+ companies, Team Universal was crowned the winner of the prestigious Dream Team Award at The Prince’s Trust Million Makers Final Awards Ceremony on Monday 18 March in Central London. This award recognizes teams who have demonstrated outstanding teamwork, exhibiting the ability to encourage, support and collaborate to achieve and excel.  In total, the Million Makers Challenge raised over £2,001,596, with all proceeds going directly to The Prince’s Trust.

Looking to the future, the soon-to-be King’s Trust will continue its work to support young people to gain the skills and confidence they need for employment both in the UK and around the world. This presents further exciting opportunities for NBCUniversal’s prestigious partnership.
