MSNBC WINS 1ST WEEK OF 2018, BEATING FOX NEWS AND CNN IN A25-54 FOR WEEKDAY PRIME

NEW YORK (January 8, 2018) – MSNBC finished the 1st week of 2018 as the #1 cable news network in the key demographic of A25-54 during prime (M-F 8-11pm), according to Nielsen data for the week of January 1-5. MSNBC prime averaged 532,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 513,000 and CNN’s 379,000). MSNBC prime delivered 2.4 million total viewers, more than doubling CNN’s viewership (1,073,000).

“The Rachel Maddow Show” was the #1 cable news show in A25-54 for the week. Additionally, “Maddow” was the highest-rated broadcast in all of cable television for 2 nights in a row (January 3-4). “Maddow” averaged 662,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 572,000 and CNN’s 362,000) and 2,976,000 total viewers (vs. FOX News’ 2,944,000 – all 4 nights of “Hannity” – and CNN’s 1,022,000).

“The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” bested FOX News and CNN at 10pm in A25-54 with 505,000 viewers (vs. FOX News’ 436,000 and CNN’s 361,000). Among total viewers, “The Last Word” averaged 2,296,000 (vs. CNN’s 993,000).

“The 11th Hour with Brian Williams” (M-F 11pm-12am) beat FOX News and CNN at 11pm in A25-54 and in total viewers. “The 11th Hour” averaged 388,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 330,000 and CNN’s 273,000) and 1,614,000 total viewers (vs. FOX News’ 1,473,000 and CNN’s 766,000).
