Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is a fundamental part of our corporate strategy that funnels down to all our businesses, and their relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

When it comes to discovering the best creative talent, we’re always looking at how we can support and develop visionary individuals of all backgrounds. By offering intensive workshops, meaningful mentorship and scholarship programs, NBCUniversal is committed to providing resources and opportunities for equal representation in media.

Media Partners

Our goal is to support a variety of community and media partners that drive the development in the next generation of diverse storytellers in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes in production roles.

Through a partnership with NBCUniversal, the GLAAD Media Institute provides training and consultation to create production solutions and framing experiences designed to deliver powerful and enduring affinity with the LGBTQ community. The GLAAD Media Institute collaborates with various NBCUniversal divisions and entertainment brands to provide feedback on production materials and guidance on how to best represent LGBTQ related topics.

For over a decade, the Geena Davis Institute has been the leading resource and thought leader on gender in media. NBCUniversal has partnered with the Geena Davis Institute in support of their mission of increasing and advocating for equal representation in media.

In order to increase equal representation on screen in Film & TV, we partner with several coalitions that consult on representation and depiction of characters in storylines and programs. Primary partners include: National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), Coalition of Asian Pacific Entertainment (CAPE), the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), the Barcid Foundation, and the Ruderman Foundation

NBC News Group/Journalism

In January 2021, we launched NBCU Academy, a new initiative that provides four-year university and community college students, scholarships, education, on-campus training, online programming, funding for accredited journalism programs and access to world-class journalists from NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC and Telemundo.

NBCU Academy is partnered with 17 academic universities, community colleges and institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions and colleges with significant Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous and tribal populations – reaching students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Each Summer, NBCUniversal supports the annual Journalism Conferences with the following organizations: National Association of Black Journalists, Asian American Journalists Association, South Asian Journalists Association, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Native American Journalists Association, and the Online News Association.
