NEW YORK – MAY 26, 2016 – Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network, today unveils their annual “Summer of Sprout” lineup, providing families with special programming to celebrate the summer months. The initiative, which kicks off Memorial Day weekend and runs through Labor Day weekend, includes the launch of The Jim Henson Company and DHX Media’s animated preschool series DOOZERS; “Family Movie Nights” every weekend; and special episodes of viewer favorites from the network’s regular lineup.
DOOZERS, which debuted on Hulu as the first Hulu Original for kids in 2014, is inspired by the beloved characters from the classic Henson series “Fraggle Rock,” and features the fun and adventurous “Pod Squad” - Spike, Molly Bolt, Flex and Daisy Wheel. The four Doozer kids live at the edges of our world and right under our noses in the fantastical, modern and eco-friendly Doozer Creek. They’re green, they’re three inches tall, and they’re full of energy, ideas and enthusiasm. Doozers put their ideas into action and change their dreams into reality. DOOZERS, produced by The Jim Henson Company and DHX Media, features a ground breaking design thinking curriculum, which is part of an overall STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) initiative for preschoolers. “Summer of Sprout” will kick off on Saturday, May 28 with a “Nina’s World: Nina Goes Camping” special airing at 7:00PM ET. Nina and her family leave the big city bustle for her first-ever camping trip and summer vacation. The weekend will also feature a DOOZERS marathon on Monday, May 30 from 12:00PM ET to 6:00PM ET. DOOZERS will then join Sprout’s regular programming schedule and will air at 8:00AM, 10:40AM and 3:00PM ET on weekdays.
Sprout will be a go-to destination for stellar family movies all summer long with “Family Movie Nights” every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening at 6:00PM beginning June 3 through September 4. Each week will also feature “Summer Fridays” at Sprout, which officially kick off the weekend with back-to-back episodes from different fan favorite shows within the network’s portfolio from 4:00PM – 6:00PM ET.
