NEW YORK – March 8, 2016 – NBCUniversal and Comcast today announced the results of their fifth hackathon—themed “New Forms of Storytelling Inspired by Emerging Technology”—which took place in Silicon Valley on March 5-6. “FitCraft,” the Grand Prize winner, leverages the power of movie storytelling to enhance viewers’ fitness experiences, enabling users to feel the real intensity of the characters and film narratives. Nearly 200 developers participated, forming a total of 41 teams, to compete for the $10,000 in cash and prizes, as well as the opportunity to pitch their ideas to NBCUniversal Media Labs.

- Grand Prize – Universal Pictures Challenge Winner: “FitCraft”
FitCraft leverages the power of movie storytelling to enhance your fitness experience. M Asynaps, Jingsha Luo, Susan Zell and Meng Zhou developed the winning concept.
- Content Finds Consumer Challenge Winner: “Flixer”
A matchmaker between you and your content! Flixer ingests TV and Movie descriptions and creates personality profiles for them. User’s personalities are analyzed through Watson Engine and a custom algorithm matches you to the best content by showing your compatibility percentage.
- Connected Car Challenge Winner: “MobileMinded“
The NBCUniversal Commute app gives our audience access to our content on an entirely new platform: the connected car. Drivers are able to learn about the latest NBCUniversal show and movie releases through voice commands.

This fifth Comcast NBCUniversal Hackathon comes on the heels of the media and technology company’s competitions in London, Orlando, New York and Los Angeles. The successful events resulted in the hiring of developers and product concept incubations in the NBCUniversal Media Labs division.
