For the past three summers, NBCUniversal has been a proud supporter of The American Film Institute’s Documentary Film Festival (AFI DOCS) in Washington D.C.
AFI DOCS brings together artists, audiences, and politicians to highlight documentary films and their ability to create change. NBCUniversal is not only a sponsor of the Film Festival, but also creator and major supporter of the AFI DOCS Impact Lab in partnership with Universal Pictures, the film studio of Comcast NBCUniversal.
The AFI DOCS Impact Lab is an innovative part of AFIDOCS that provides filmmakers with intensive training in community action, advocacy, online organizing, and technology for engagement. Impact Lab participants learn skills to effectively engage at a grassroots level with policymakers who are addressing a range of issues aligned with each individual film. Most importantly, the Impact Lab teaches filmmakers to leverage the power of story and film to catalyze social change.
In addition to the issue-advocacy training and meetings with congressional staffers, the Impact Lab Participants are all eligible to apply for AFI DOCS/NBCUniversal Impact Grants. The NBCUniversal Impact Grants fund outreach and social action campaigns of the winning documentaries, in an effort to further their film’s impact.
