Committed to working with innovative local non-profit organizations to address community challenges, the NBCUniversal Foundation has kicked off its annual 21st Century Solutions grant challenge.
In partnership with the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, the NBCUniversal Foundation is looking for bold new ideas to move communities and people forward through civic engagement, education, environmental action, economic empowerment and the use of the arts, media and technology.
Last year’s winners represented a range of diverse and creative approaches to community challenges. One winning project featured local farmers partnering with a food bank to provide the hungry with nutritious food. Another innovative project used cloud technology to connect deployed service members with their children for the purpose of helping them with literacy and reading skills while they are away from home. Check out more of the winning programs here.
The program provides a total of $1.2 million to 30 local nonprofit organizations in 10 of the communities served by the NBCU Owned Television Stations: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, D.C., Miami-Fort Lauderdale, San Diego and Connecticut.
One winner and two runners-up will be awarded grants in each market. Winners will be announced by the end of 2015.
The application period closes on July 3. For more information about the grant or to apply, applicants should visit their local station site below.
