Comcast NBCUnites Launches with First-Ever Nonprofit Volunteer Fairs

January 28, 2019

Comcast NBCUniversal is fostering a culture of service within the company with the launch of our new volunteering and social impact initiative, Comcast NBCUnites. The launch kicked off with the company’s first-ever Nonprofit Volunteer Fairs held in locations across the company, including New York, Stamford, Los Angeles, and Miami.

The fairs introduced employees to an extensive network of local organizations and corporate partners like Ghetto Film School, City Year and Step Up Women’s Network. Nearly 1500 employees across the company attended fairs in their location and were able to directly connect with 66 nonprofits that will offer year-round volunteer opportunities for NBCUniversal employees.

“It’s really important that we give back as a company. We know that our employees feel that way and they want to be involved. ” said Hilary Smith, EVP of Corporate Communications and Social Impact.

Not only were employees able to engage organizations in causes based on their interests, but they also participated in a range of activities which differed by location. Examples include interacting with therapy dogs and adoptable rescue dogs, assembling craft kits for children in hospitals, a photo booth, and meeting TODAY’s puppy with a purpose, Sunny.

Many of the participating organizations raved about their positive experience and excitement after meeting with all the eager employees looking to get involved.

Rachel Derstine, Volunteer Program Coordinator at the Center for the Pacific Asian Family, stated, “We were grateful to be invited to talk about our work and to tap into the skills, passion, and energy present in the room.”

Colin P. Delaney, Director of Development at Minds Matter NYC, says, “NBCUniversal and Comcast are not just companies, they really are national institutions. They’re historic, they’re important. We’re really excited to bring our kids into this space and show them that they can belong in a space like this, if they want it and they work hard for it.”

“Congratulations on an incredible non-profit fair! Thank you so much again for including Baby2Baby in this inaugural event. My team and I were able to engage with so many amazing employees who had heard of our organization through the adopt-a-family program, and new employees who were learning about Baby2Baby for the first time. It was also so wonderful to be able to connect with the fellow nonprofits onsite, so thank you again for bringing us all together,” said Taylor Morton, Community Engagement Manager, Baby2Baby.

Evan Floyd Robinson, Co-Founder of New York On Tech, had the following to say, “We’re super excited about continuing to strengthen our partnership and bridge the connection between our students and employees here at Comcast NBCUniversal. It’s extremely important for students to have social capital and networks at an early age, and bringing these two audiences together makes for a great partnership.”
