Comcast NBCU, Telemundo, OpenIDEO Launch Healthy Lives Challenge

This summer, NBCUniversal and its Hispanic Enterprises Group are teaming up with OpenIDEO, a social innovation platform, to bring people together and develop ideas that leverage technology and inspire all socioneconmic and multicultural groups to lead healthier lives. OpenIDEO provides a vehicle for people across the globe to collaborate in finding real solutions to pressing social issues through sponsored challenges. The process begins with a formulated question that is posed to the public in a guided, human-centered design process, where participants will have the opportunity to learn about the problem, ideate solutions, collaborate with others, and push forward the most innovative ideas.

The NBCUniversal team, together with OpenIDEO, developed the following question: How might we use technology to inspire all socioeconomic and multicultural groups to lead healthier lives? The goal of the Healthy Lives Challenge is to develop a set of implementable solutions that use technology to improve health among all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups, with a particular focus on the growing Hispanic population in the U.S.

The Challenge will solicit innovative and scalable ideas to leverage the power of media and technology to help people from all walks of life live healthier lives. NBCUniversal is committed to inspiring healthy living and recently launched America Reimagined and Prevention is Life (Prevenir es Vivir), initiatives aimed at lowering the risk of preventable disease within the Hispanic American community through increased awareness and access to information.

The Healthy Lives Challenge kicked-off on May 6, 2015 in the research phase, during which the OpenIDEO community will begin to understand the context of the issue at hand, providing a foundation for solutions designed with end users, rather than for them.
